3 years of journalist J Dey's murder

Today, 11 June 2014, is the third death anniversary of celebrated Mid-Day journalist Jyotirmoyee Dey aka J Dey, who was shot dead near his Hiranandani residence in Mumbai on 11th June 2011. Its an irony that the court where the trial of his murder is going on will frame charges against the 11 accused just a few days later on 19th June! Three of the accused including journalist Jigna Vora are currently on bail.

According to the prosecution theory, the murder was allegedly executed at the behest of underworld don Chhota Rajan. Eleven persons have been arrested in the case. The accused have been booked under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and various sections of the IPC.

Jigna Vora who has been accused of providing Dey’s mobile number and his exact location to Chota Rajan, was the first to be released on bail in July 2012.

Vinod Asrani alias Vinod Chembur, who was accused of conspiracy and also the one to be identifying Dey for the shooters outside his restaurant in Chembur (where he had called Dey for some tip off), was the second accused to be released on temporary bail on December 12, 2012, on medical grounds.

Similarly, Joseph Paulson, who was accused of providing global SIM cards to the shooters to interact with Asrani and others, was released on bail in October 2013.

Despite some of the accused out on bail, the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police believes that it has a watertight case against the accused.

Meanwhile J Dey's mother and wife are still crying for justice and believe that the accused should be punished sooner than later.
